Mililani Rec Centers After 7 p.m.: What's Still Open

From Sunday through Thursday, every open Mililani Town Association recreation center locks its doors at 7 p.m. except one. Rec 3 at 95-281 Kaloapau Street stays open until 9 p.m. every day of the week, and so do its café, arcade, tot lot and courts.

This is new. Rec 3 reopened on January 3, 2026, after more than 12 months of remodeling. Then on October 10, MTA posted that Rec Center 4 was closed. Together, those two changes leave the Town side without its splash park and put every Sunday-through-Thursday evening hour MTA offers on Kaloapau Street.

Mornings still spread across Mauka and Town

The day starts the old way. On the October 2026 facility schedule, lap swimmers have options from 7 a.m. at Rec 1 on Ikaloa Street, Rec 2 on Anania Drive, Rec 6 on Konaku Street and Rec 7 on Lehiwa Drive. Rec 6's 25-yard pool, 4 to 5 feet deep, is set up for laps.

Pickleball runs on two different systems. Rec 7 has an indoor gym that hosts scheduled pickleball group-play blocks, most of them starting at 7 a.m. Rec 3 has eight outdoor courts open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The two don't swap evenly this week. MTA's schedule says the Rec 7 gym is closed Monday, October 19 through Friday, October 23. Until Saturday, Rec 3's courts are the only MTA pickleball available.

Coffee works the same way at both cafés. Rec 7 Café opened in 2014, and the remodel gave Rec 3 a café of its own. Both open at 7 a.m.

Where the day narrows at 7 p.m.

The table below lists each center's facility closing time Sunday through Thursday and its main amenities, based on MTA's posted October hours. Some amenities shut down earlier than the building. Rec 1's water slides and Rec 2's court and tot lot stop at sundown.

Center Sun.–Thu. closing Main amenities
Rec 1, 95-400 Ikaloa St. 7 p.m. 25-yard pool, two water slides, jet spa
Rec 2, 94-300 Anania Dr. 7 p.m. 25-meter heated saline pool, basketball court
Rec 3, 95-281 Kaloapau St. 9 p.m. Café, arcade, tot lot, pickleball and tennis courts
Rec 4, 94-233 Makapipipi St. Closed until further notice Splash park, two circular pools
Rec 5, 95-1101 ʻĀinamakua Dr. Events and rentals only Hall
Rec 6, 95-1010 Konaku St. 7 p.m. Lap pool, jet spa
Rec 7, 95-1333 Lehiwa Dr. 7 p.m. Indoor gym, heated saline pool, café

On a weeknight, MTA gives you two hours a day that only Rec 3 offers. Anyone who plays after work, wants a coffee after dinner or needs to burn off a child's energy after 7 p.m. ends up on Kaloapau Street. Its business office also stays open until 9 p.m. daily, with the last transaction at 8:30 p.m. That makes it the place to pay assessments or drop off a design application after a full workday.

What the remodel put inside those late hours

MTA's February 2026 newsletter described the January 3 reopening. Kahu Kordell Kekoa gave a formal blessing, and the association wrote that he blessed each guest:

"to signify Rec 3's role as a vital hub for our community."

The newsletter lists what's new. The tot lot is brand-new, with umbrella-shaded tables for parents. The arcade drew adults as well as kids. The café has ample indoor seating. Outside, the eight pickleball courts and two tennis courts were resurfaced, and the shaded courtside waiting area was refurbished. The hall keeps its original layout and is still the second-largest in the MTA system, with room for 230 people. The October schedule also lists a jet spa labeled "NEW."

The café page says MTA owns and runs both cafés. They serve espresso drinks made with Starbucks recipes, plus pastries, shave ice and Sage Creamery ice cream. Starbucks gift cards and rewards aren't accepted. The two cafés keep different hours at night. Rec 3 Café serves until 9 p.m. every day. Rec 7 Café closes at 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Court rules shape the evening at Rec 3. MTA's rules, revised January 22, 2026, make tennis first-come, first-served. You can reserve a court up to three days ahead, in one-hour blocks that include warm-up. During open play and advanced play, pickleball courts can't be reserved, everyone present shares them, and players give up the court when a game ends and others are waiting. MTA lends pickleball paddles and balls when it has them available. All courts close from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the last Thursday of each month. In October, that's the 29th.

The Town side's splash park is offline

Rec 4 matters most to families with young children. The Rec 4 page lists two circular pools, one of them a kiddie pool, a 3-to-5-foot pool, a splash park, a tot lot and a picnic area. MTA's October 10 post says only that the center is closed until further notice. It gives no reason and no reopening date. The October schedule went out in September and still shows Rec 4 pool and splash-park hours. Go by the newer notice.

That closure puts more weight on Rec 3, but there's a limit. Rec 3's own pool is small and saline, 50 feet long and 3 to 5 feet deep. MTA says it's mainly for parties and swim lessons for children with special needs. On the October schedule its open swim ends at 6 p.m. After dark, Rec 3's draw for children is the tot lot and arcade. In the afternoon, Rec 1 runs its water slides until sundown, and Rec 2 has a separate kiddie pool.

The system has already had a rough season. MTA closed every facility for Hurricane Lala in mid-August and again for Hurricane Lowell on September 8, so staff could assess conditions and clear debris. When Lala hit, Hawaii News Now reported more than 147 downed-tree responses by the City across Oʻahu by 10 a.m. that Sunday. Cleanup was still going on October 12, when MTA posted that contractors would remove several storm-damaged trees along the walkway from the Gazebo to Ravine Park. The walkway was expected to close for about two days.

Fridays and Saturdays open three doors, and event nights add a fourth

Weekends spread the evening back out. Rec 2 and Rec 7 stay open until 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. On those two nights, Rec 2's heated saline pool runs lap and open swim until 9 p.m., and Rec 7's jet spa runs until 9. Apart from those weekend hours, MTA's other evening options this fall are ticketed or scheduled events, and most are at Rec 5 and Rec 6 in Mililani Mauka:

  1. October 30, Halloween Bingo at Rec 5. Two sessions, 4 to 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. It's free for members, but you need a ticket. Costumes are welcome for special rounds. Rec 5 is closed to other use that day.
  2. November 7, MTA Pet Fair at Rec 6. Free, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pet-product vendors and food sellers include Mandy's Munchies, MIXT and Pepitos.
  3. November 21, Gyotaku workshop at Rec 6. Fish printing for $130 per member, materials and a framed print included. Each session is limited to 20 people.
  4. December 5, Holiday Craft Fair at Rec 5. Free, 4 to 9 p.m. MTA's event page still says "Coming Soon."
  5. December 12, Holiday Bingo at Rec 5. Free, 1:30 to 8 p.m.

Other events nearby fill in around these. Mililani Shopping Center hosts the Mahiku Farmers Market in its East Courtyard every Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. It has a Halloween event on October 31 from 10 a.m. to noon. The 39th Annual Mililani Holiday Parade runs on December 5 from 9 to 10:30 a.m., hours before the craft fair opens. Town Center of Mililani is advertising trick-or-treating and a costume contest on Sunday, October 25, with more than $1,000 in prizes.

Getting through the front door

Every one of these hours depends on the scanner at the entrance. MTA's October 2026 newsletter says you need a card scan or barcode to get in. It lists $6.50 for a new card, $5 for a one-year renewal and $2 for each additional card, and it says every household member needs a RecTrac photo on file. The January rules put it a little differently, describing a card that each individual presents and scans. If the details matter to your household, check with the front desk. The rules allow four guests per cardholder at a time. Each guest needs a $12 one-day pass, must stay with the member and can't join MTA classes or programs. These are association rules, and this post is general information, not legal advice, so confirm your situation directly with MTA. Your MTA dues pay for this access. Our earlier look at Mililani's association fees walks through what owners pay.

A late court session at Rec 3 is one thing your Mililani assessment pays for. Rec 3 hours and Rec 4's closure are also details you can mention to a buyer when you sell, and Freddie D.
